Learn Gond & Lippan Art from our Artist in Residence, Shraddha Gupte Culture and art play a significant role in many aspects of our wellness. Along with enriching our imagination and creativity, learning about culture and art deepens the connection with ourselves and boosts our wellbeing. Learning about Culture and Art is especially beneficial for second and third-generation Australians, as it provides an avenue to connect with the richness of cultural stories. During this workshop, participants will get an opportunity to two Indian folk arts: Lippan & Gond. About Lippan: Lippan art is a clay art form from Gujarat, India. Several ethnic communities practise it, and widely popularised by women practitioners. They use it to add an architectural element and use the art form reflective features to provide lighting and decorate their homes. About Gond: Gond paintings are tribal art that is practised by one of the largest tribes in India with whom the art form shares its name. Gond comes from the Dravidian expression, Kond meaning, "the green mountain". About the workshop This seven-week workshop is for children and teens interested in exploring and gaining a beginner-level understanding of both Indian art forms. The workshop is facilitated by Shraddha Gupte, a Sydney-based Australian Indian artist whose work is inspired by natural elements like animals, birds, humans and natural scenery in my art. During this session, along with exploring the art form, participants will have the ability to gain cultural insight into exploring mental health within the South Asian landscape. Spaces are limited.
