Culturally Creative Me

The COVID19 constant lockdowns have had a major impact on young people who sometimes fail to understand what is going on and are unable to express themselves in a logical manner. This has resulted in a high rate of mental health issues and even an increase in suicide rates during the lockdowns. 1 in 4 young people are currently experiencing a mental health difficulty, but even more distressing is that 70% of those people don’t get the support they need. Not understanding or feeling disjointed from cultural practices is one of the main reasons for loss of identity, anxiety and such issues.

This eight week workshop is for teens and young adults who are interested in exploring four different cultural art practices, with two sessions dedicated to work on each cultural art practice. During this workshop, the participants will learn from local artists who are experts in their field like Indigenous Art, Indian (Madhubhani and Warli painting), Origami and Chinese Calligraphy.

The program consists of 8 x workshop sessions allowing for the youth to access their inner strength, explore and express themselves in a safe and happy environment, develop problem-solving skills to build emotional vocabulary, gain confidence. Most importantly establish a connection with a cultural art practice, artist identity in a fun and safe environment.

The first 7 x sessions also allow for the local/regional ‘expert’ artists to present a specialized art form utilizing a specific media. The local artist will then guide each individual to find their own creative bent in producing one or multiple pieces of art. This allows for the local /regional artist to not only inspire the young group of budding artists but also provide an outlet to reveal their own passion, teach and hence, self-express and share their creativity.

In the last session, an exhibition will be hosted at the studio where participants will get to exhibit their curated work and present their work to family and friends.

All art materials provided. Participants have a choice to book the workshop as an eight week immersive experience or to book their choice of cultural art practice sessions they would like to explore.

Spaces are limited. Max* 10 participants (In-studio) sessions.
